The timeless story of two good buddies learning the art of love comes to life in the Ball Theater this week with the Wabash Theater presentation of Two Gentlemen of Verona.
The play opens at 8 p.m. Wednesday night in the Ball Theater at the Fine Arts Building.

"For me, Shakespeare's The Two Gentlemen of Verona is about the natures of the bonds of platonic friendship and romantic love," said Visiting Assistant Professor of Theater James Cherry. "It is a play about young men leaving the comforts of home to enter a wider, more complicated world. It is about the first steps toward upward mobility and moving outside of your class. And it is about the changes and dangers that are part and parcel with that journey.
"Even though it was first performed sometime in the 1590s, Two Gentlemen is a funny, thought-provoking play that still resonates today."
The play runs through Saturday. Cherry said the experience has been a very rewarding one.
"The students have rehearsed tirelessly over the past several weeks and it has been a blast working with and learning from them," Cherry said. "Collaborating with the design team has also been a stimulating and rewarding experience. I just hope everyone has enjoyed the process as much as I have."
