The Wabash baseball team found out why the Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops are ranked in fourth in the nation after the Bishops swept a three-game series from the Little Giants this weekend. Ohio Wesleyan defeated Wabash 7-0 and 8-2 on Saturday before taking an 18-6 win on Sunday.

The Little Giants ran into a red-hot Bishops pitching staff that recorded 33 strikeouts in the series and held the Wabash bats to a .213 batting average. Junior catcher Jake Knott (Lafayette, IN/Jefferson) had a good performance at the plate, starting in all three games and finishing with a 4-for-11 effort for a .364 batting average. He had two doubles and one RBI in the series. Junior Josh Stanton (Mooresville, IN/Mooresville) was 3-for-9 (.333) with a double and a run scored. Schubert was 3-of-10 with an RBI for the Little Giants, starting in all three games.

After being shutout in the first game against the Bishops on Saturday, the Little Giants fell behind 8-0 in the second game before rallying for two runs in the top of the seventh inning. Knott opened the inning with a double, followed by a walk to Stanton. A passed ball moved the two runners to second and third, allowing them to score on a two-run single by senior Bryson Renbarger (Converse, IN/Eastern).

The Bishops took a 9-0 lead on Sunday before Wabash was able to respond with three runs in the top of the seventh. Ohio Wesleyan responded with five in the bottom half of the inning. The Little Giants added a run in the eigth and two in the ninth inning, but the Bishops scored four in the bottom of the eighth to earn the 18-6 win.

Wabash falls to 12-17, 0-4 in the North Coast Athletic Conference Western Division. Ohio Wesleyan, ranked fourth in the latest ABCA/Collegiate Baseball/NCAA Division III national baseball poll, is 20-3 and 5-1 in the NCAC West.
