The Wabash tennis team had finished in sixth place in its first two seasons as a member of the North Coast Athletic Conference at the league's annual men's tennis championship event. This year's team would enter the tournament seeded seventh, but would score wins over Ohio Wesleyan Friday night and a 5-3 victory over Oberlin Saturday morning to take fifth place in the final standings.
Wabash advanced to Saturday's fifth-place match against Oberlin with a 5-1 victory over OWU Friday night in the second round of the tournament, held at Denison University (read about that victory here). The Little Giants once again took all three doubles matches, just like they had against OWU the night before.
Jay Horrey and Adam Van Zee, playing together for the final time in their careers, scored their 24th win of the season and the most by any doubles group in the history of Wabash tennis. The duo scored an 8-2 win over Oberlin's Chris Pray and Colin Burling. The victory was the 54th of Van Zee's career, making the senior only the second Wabash tennis player to pick up 50 or more wins in doubles action.
Sean Clerget and Adrian Starnes combined for an 8-3 victory at number two doubles, while seniors Josh Paul and Dan Petrie took an 8-2 win in the third flight of doubles play.
Horrey scored a straight sets 6-5, 6-3 victory at number one singles. Paul picked up the final team point with a 6-4, 6-3 win at number three singles to secure the fifth place finish for the Little Giants.
Wabash finishes the season with a record of 14-13, tying for the third-most wins in school history. The Little Giants posted 15-win seasons in 1993 and again in 1995. The only other 14-win season came in 2001.
