Four Little Giants Named to All-NCAC Baseball Team

The slugging duo of Matt Dodaro and Jake Thomas led four Wabash players to spots on the 2007 All-North Coast Athletic Conference Baseball team. Dodaro and Thomas were First Team All-NCAC picks, while senior Scott Hamilton and junior TJ Siple earned Honorable Mention honors.

Dodaro was an All-NCAC pick for the second consecutive year after being named to the Honorable Mention team as a freshman. The sophomore shortstop was second in the North Coast in slugging percentage (.671), third in home runs (9), and tied for third in doubles (13). His 98 total bases for the season shattered the Wabash single season record while placing him third in the conference overall. Dodaro pounded out 52 hits, tying him with Jared Bogan '06 for the fifth-most in a season at Wabash. Dodaro hit .356 and collected a team-best 37 RBIs while starting every game at short.

Thomas also started every game for the Little Giants and seemed to have a hit in nearly every one, as well. He set the Wabash single season for hits with 59, breaking the mark of 56 set during the 1997 season by Zak Judd '99 while tying for the top mark among NCAC players this year. Thomas hit safely in each of his last 10 games of the year, tying the longest streak of the season by a Wabash player. He had 17 games in which he had two or more hits with his best effort coming in a 5-for-6 effort against William Paterson University during the team's spring break trip to Arizona. Thomas hit 11 doubles, three triples, and four home runs. His biggest homer of the season came with a two-run blast in a tie game against Wooster that gave the Little Giants a 3-1 victory and ended the Scots' 27-game winning streak. Thomas was third in the conference in batting (.424) and fifth in total bases (88).

Hamilton, like Thomas, joined the All-NCAC squad for the first time. Hamilton played in 37 games as a catcher and designated hitter for the Little Giants, enjoying the best season of his career with 37 hits, six doubles, and 29 RBIs. He set the school record for sacrifice hits in a career with 13 and tied for second on the single season list with six in his final campaign. Hamilton led Wabash to a 4-3 win over Wisconsin-Platteville with an 11th-inning single to score the game-winning run, then repeated the effort four days later with a game-winning RBI double in the 10th inning against Anderson University. The senior's final career at bat ended with an RBI single against Earlham that sent the final game of the season into extra innings before the Little Giants pulled out a 6-4 win.

Siple, a junior pitcher for the Little Giants, appeared in 10games for the Little Giants, tying for the team lead with four victories. His four complete games were tops among Wabash pitchers, as was his 4.29 ERA and 46 strikeouts. Siple allowed only 27 earned runs in 56-2/3 innings pitched. He had a career-best eight K's against Rutgers-Camden in Arizona, then equalled that mark with eight against Robert Morris-Springfield late in the season. Siple picked up victories in his last two starts of the season, allowing only three hits in a complete game victory over Ohio Wesleyan while scattering nine hits over 6-1/2 innings in a win against Earlham. His selection to the All-NCAC team is the first of his career.
