Little Giant Thinclads Sixth at Little State Championship

The Wabash College track and field team took sixth place out of 18 teams at the 97th Annual Little State Championship Meet, held at DePauw University on Saturday.

Wabash had several athletes earn top-five finishes at the meet. Junior John Crumpacker (Crawfordsville, IN/Ben Davis) was third in the javelin throw with a toss of 159-11. Junior Peter DeYoung (Evansville, IN/Evansville Bosse) returned to action after missing several weeks with an injury to take third place in the high jump, clearing 6-6. DeYoung added a sixth-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 42-3.25.

Junior Chris Weitzel (Bringhurst, IN/Carroll) was fourth in the 800-meter run, finishing the race in 1:58.28. Junior Mark Sherer (Valparaiso, IN/Valparaiso) added a fourth-place finish in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:59.71. Teammate Dan Ruge (Chesterton, IN/Chesterton) finished sixth in the event (4:00.84).

Senior Jared Smit (Lafayette, IN/Central Catholic) was fifth in the 5,000-meter run, touring the circuit in 15:17.41. Junior Caleb Ishman (Gary, IN/Emerson Visual and Performing Arts) took fifth in the hammer throw (145-2).

Wabash will participate in the Millikin Classic next Saturday.
