Wabash senior Nathan Bates has been named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District Men's Cross Country/Track and Field Team.
A four-year member of the Little Giant track team, Bates won three outdoor 400-meter dash titles at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship meets, the first 400 runner to accomplish the feat. He holds the school record in the indoor 400 with a time of 50.00 in addition to participating as a member of the school-record setting 800- and 1600-meter relay teams. He also earned the NCAC indoor 400-meter title in 2005.
Bates was an First Team Academic All-District and Second Team Academic All-American in 2006. He recently graduated from Wabash with a 3.91 cumulative grade point average as a psychology major and religion minor, earning membership in Phi Beta Kappa. Bates is also a member of the APO service fraternity and is the track team representative to the Wabash Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
The ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA All-District Team is selected by sports information directors from each area at the college and university level. District V representatives from Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota and the provinces of Ontario and Manitoba selected 11 college- and 10 university-level student-athletes for First Team honors in 2007.
