Trailing 8-7 and facing two outs in the inning, Wabash right fielder Mike Mack (Butler, IN/Eastside) beat out a hit to third base. Renbarger then ripped a triple to the rightcenter field wall to knot the game at 8-8. But the Grizzlied scored three runs in the top half of the extra frame with one out to put the game out of reach as the Little Giants went down in order in their half of the tenth.
Wabash opened the game with a four-run first on hits from Mack and Renbarger and a wild pitch to score Danny Schubert (Lebanon, IL/Lebanon). Franklin put a three-spot on the scoreboard in the third inning, then tied the game in the fifth. Wabash plated two runs in the bottom half of the fifth with an RBI double by Renbarger, who was a home run away from hitting for the cycle. The senior co-captian finished the game with three hits in four at bats and had four RBIs.
The Grizzlies took a 7-6 lead in the sixth before Wabash tied the game one inning later. A run by Franklin in the top of the eighth setup the heroics in the ninth by Mack and Renbarger.
Mack and Schubert were the only other Wabash players to record multiple hits in the 13-hit barrage. Mack was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Schubert finished 2-for-6 with a run scored.
The Little Giants move to 15-20 and will play a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Mud Hollow against Wittenberg University. The North Coast Athletic Conference contest begins at 1 p.m.
