Wabash College is pleased to announce the Visiting Artists Series and Theater events for the 2007-2008 year.
In 2007-2008, seating for Visiting Artists Series and Theater events will be by general admission, though free tickets are required for the programs.
Tickets for Fall Semester events will be available Monday, September 3, 2007. Tickets for Spring Semester events will be available Monday, January 14, 2008.

Box Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon and 1:30 to 4 p.m. The box office will open 90 minutes before curtain time for Theater and Visiting Artists events. Tickets not claimed at the Box Office 10 minutes prior to curtain will be released to the general public.

A powerful evening of American folk music and storytelling, Wilderness Plots is a collection of songs and stories inspired by the history of settling the American wilderness in the time between the Revolution and the Civil
War. Noted singer-songwriters Carrie Newcomer, Tim Grimm, Krista Detor, Tom Roznowski, and Michael White perform songs drawn from tales written by acclaimed Indiana author Scott Russell Sanders, who reads selections from his work. Wabash College Theater presents Never the Sinner by John Logan
October 3-6

In Chicago on May 21, 1924, teenagers Nathan Leopold, Jr. and Robert Loeb killed 14-year-old Bobby and were quickly apprehended after Leopold’s glasses were found near the corpse. Clarence Darrow defended them, pleading eloquently against capital punishment. This Off-Broadway hit explores the complex relationship between Leopold and Loeb with a story set to themes of crime and punishment, the press, the times, humanism, Nietzsche’s philosophy and the end of the jazz age.
The Visiting Artists Series presents Kungfu Theatre: Tales from the Beijing Opera

A series of comic and dramatic scenes from China’s most popular stories, "kungfu theatre" is a combination of music, dialogue, dance, mime, and acrobatics. These scenes, acted by a troupe of Chinese and American theatre artists collaborating to produce theatre that promotes cultural exchange and artistic exploration, capture the magic and beauty of China’s most renowned performing arts tradition, while being accessible to English-speaking audiences of all ages.
The Visiting Artists Series presents Czech Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra
Thursday, October 18

Born of the bloodless "Velvet Revolution," the Czech Republic has spawned a renaissance of artistic activity in Prague, including the revitalization of international touring by the celebrated Czech Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra. Formed in 1977 by Pavel Prantl and colleagues from the Czech Philharmonic, today’s chamber orchestra comprises musicians from both the Czech Philharmonic and Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Founded in 1993,Trio Amabile has been invited to perform in concert series throughout the Midwest. The Trio — violinist and Wabash College Chamber Orchestra Conductor Alfred Abel, Tippecanoe Chamber Music Society Artistic Director and cellist Margot Marlatt, and Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra violist Colette Abel—is joined for this program by violinist Eric Grossman, praised in The New York Times as "a fiercely brilliant soloist."

And desperation reigns.
The Visiting Artists Series presents Lecture by Suzan-Lori Parks

Named one of Time magazine’s "100 Innovators for the Next New Wave," Suzan-Lori Parks is one of the most exciting and acclaimed playwrights in American drama today. She is the first African American woman to receive the Pulitzer Prize in Drama and is a MacArthur "Genius"Award recipient, among many other honors. Her project 365 Plays/365 is being produced in more than 700 theatres worldwide, creating one of the largest grassroots collaborations in theater history. One of the first to recognize Parks’ writing skills, her mentor, James Baldwin, declared Parks "an astonishing and beautiful creature who may become one of the most valuable artists of our time."

The group’s arrangements of early music from England, Scotland, France, Italy, and Spain speak to the heart as well as the mind. Their love for the early music of English/Scottish heritage has led them to delve into the rich trove of traditional balladry and dance tunes preserved in the Appalachian Mountains and Nova Scotia..

After years of wedded bliss, Raymonde Chandibise suspects her suddenly chaste husband Victor of having a mistress. Her best friend, Lucienne, concocts a plot to catch Victor by writing him an anonymous love letter suggesting a meeting at the hotel Coq d’Or. The plan backfires, though, when Victor assumes the letter was meant for his best friend, Tournel, who has the hots for Raymonde. A Flea in Her Ear is a riotous farce
full of slamming doors, mistaken identities, and sexual innuendo.
