Senior linebacker Adi Pynenberg has been named the North Coast Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week after leading Wabash to five turnovers and eight sacks in the team's 28-6 win over Millikin.
The Montgomery, Illinois product made 16 tackles, including eight solo stops. He had one of the Little Giants' eight sacks and had three tackles for losses of 23 yards. Pynenberg also forced a fumble when he took the football out of the hands of the Millikin quarterback.
Pynenberg became the fourth Wabash player in school history to top the 300-tackle mark. He has 311 tackles in 34 games. Pynenberg is also among the all-time Wabash leaders in tackles for losses and sacks. He has 52 TFLs in his career, trailing BJ Hammer '01 with 58. Hammer and his brother, Blair '04, own the all-time sacks record with 27-1/2. Pyenberg is closing in on that mark, as well with 20-1/2 after picking up one more Saturday.
Pynenberg was the 2006 NCAC Defensive Player of the Year and earned 2007 First Team All-America honors from D3Football.com, Lindy's College Football Annual, and Street & Smith's College Football Preview.
