Effort Falls Short in 1-0 Soccer Loss to Wooster

A goal in the 26th minute by the Scots stood up in a 1-0 North Coast Athletic Conference men's soccer loss by Wabash Saturday afternoon at Mud Hollow Field.

Scott Buckwald took advantage of some confusion in the Wabash defense, scoring his third goal of the season to put the visiting Scots in front. The Little Giants would put four shots in the frame, including two by senior Gary Simkus, but could not put a score on the board.

"The boys came out from the beginning with a lot of heart and played hard," head coach Roberto Giannini said. "We came out in the second half with a lot of energy and desire, but we were too disconnected. Even though we had a couple of chances to score with Simkus and Matt Kaster, we couldn't.

"Today I feel we deserved to at least tie the game, but for the way we played in the first half we should have put it away earlier."

Wabash nearly matched Wooster (5-2, 1-0 NCAC) in total shots, taking 13 to the Scots' 15. Jon Miller made six saves.

The Little Giants (2-7, 0-2 NCAC) travel to Lexington, Kentucky Wednesday afternoon for a 5 p.m. match against Transylvania University.
