SUVON Voice Network to Shut Down

The State University Voice Network (SUVON) will be discontinued on May 31, 2008 as the Indiana Higher Education Telecommunications System (IHETS) refocuses its mission on providing data network services.  SUVON allows for faculty and staff to place free long distance phone calls throughout Indiana.

The Wabash phone system automatically routes calls over SUVON or commercial toll lines based on the number dialed, so this change won't have any effect on using the phone system.  Departments that place many in-state calls now may have some slight budget impact after SUVON shuts down, but our toll call prices are so low this impact should be negligible.

One potential negative short-term consequence is that schools may begin dropping out of the SUVON network this month (October 2007).  As schools drop out, some calls that SUVON previously could carry will no longer be able to.  If you place a long distance call in Indiana and hear a recording that the call cannot be completed as dialed, please call the Help Desk for assistance and we can remove that number from our SUVON routing tables.
