Senior offensive lineman Brian Hilts has been named one of 153 semifinalists for the Draddy Trophy.
Selected as the best and brightest from the college gridiron, the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame, along with HealthSouth, present the trophy annually to a college football player who is considered the best in the country for his combined academic success, football performance, and exemplary community leadership. Fifteen finalists from all NCAA divisions and the NAIA will be selected on October 25. Each finalist will be recognized as part of the 2007 National Scholar-Athlete Class, receiving an $18,000 post-graduate scholarship. The Draddy winner receives a $25,000 post-graduate scholarship. The award winner will be announced December 4 at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City. The award was established to honor former NFF Chairman Vincent dePaul Draddy, a Manhattan College quarterback who developed the Izod and Lacoste brands.
Hilts is a three-year starter for the Wabash football team at left tackle. A psychology major, he carries a 3.56 grade point average. Hilts and his teammates traveled to Panama during the spring of 2006, helping the native farmers prepare their fields along with other service projects. He plans to enter the field of sports medicine after graduating from Wabash.
