Associate Professor of Spanish Gilberto Gomez was awarded a grant from the National Endowment of the Humanities to attend the 2007 NEH Summer Institute, "Brazilian Literature and Culture: From the Baroque to Modernism," in July.The goal of the Institute was familiarize scholars of Spanish American literatures and cultures with cultural expressions produced by members of the popular and elite sectors of the Brazilian society that exemplify key moments in the cultural and intellectual history of Brazil: the Baroque, the Imperial, and the Modernist periods.
