Assistant Professor of German Brian Tucker’s article, "Performing Boredom in Effi Briest: On the effects of Narrative Speed," was published in The German Quarterly, Summer 2007. It was based on Theodor Fontane’s novel Effi Briest. Tucker also gave a talk on the history and significance of the judicial duel in the work of Heinrich von Kleist,"From Combat to Ordeal: Relocating Uncertainty in Kleist’s ‘Zweikampf,’" presented at the annual conference of the German Studies Association in October, 2007.
