Tankers Move To 5-0 With Win over Wittenberg

Wabash jumped out to an early lead and never looked back Friday night. The Little Giants opened the meet with a sweep of the top two spots in the 200 medley relay on the way to a 137-95 victory over Wittenberg University in swimming and diving competition at the Class of 1950 Natatorium.

The quartet of Zach Phillips, Evan Rhinesmith, Adam Petro, and Daniel Michael won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:37.90. Eric Vaughn, Kyle O'Keefe, Robert Fozkos, and Blaine Cooper-Surma were right behind in second (1:41.22). Vaughn added a first place finish in the 50 free (22.82) and a second in the 100 backstroke (55.94) behind Petro (55.89). Phillips took third (56.28) for another sweep in that event.

Jordon Blackwell (right) scored firsts in the 200 free (1:49.10) and the 100 free (49.03). Nick Rockefeller was second in the 100 free with a time of 50.62. Wabash also swept the top three places in the 200 free. Petro was second behind Blackwell, finishing in 1:50.21. Cooper-Surma was third (1:50.84).

Petro, Vaughn, and Phillips scored another sweep in the 100 backstroke. Petro won the event with a time of 55.89. Vaughn (55.94) and Phillips (56.28) were just off the pace.

Michael scored a win in the 100 fly (52.34). Elijah Sanders took first place in the 400 individual medley (4:21.20), outdistancing teammate Peter Hewitt in second place (4:33.43). Mitch Palmer took the top spot in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.76). Chad Woods was second in the 1000 free (10:26.56) with Craig Vetor finishing third (10:30.40).

Rob Fenoglio posted the top score on the one-meter board with a total of 204.68 points. Cole Hatcher was second (192.08).

The Class of 1950 Natatorium will be the site of the annual Wabash Invitational next Friday and Saturday. The nine-team competition begins Friday night at 6 p.m. Saturday's action starts at 10:30 a.m.
