Scott VanderStoep is an associate professor of psychology at Hope College. He has been department chair since 2006 and has directed campus-wide assessment activities since 2001. Among other duties related to assessment, he serves as the liaison between Hope and a Teagle-funded consortium in which Hope has participated. He is also one of the campus representatives for the Wabash National Study.
Scott has a PhD in education and psychology from the University of Michigan. His research interests include critical thinking and problem solving, epistemological beliefs of college students, and the role that religious beliefs play in college student cognitive development. He has experience using NSSE data to begin campus-wide discussions on how to make changes to students’ academic experiences. Recently Hope has been recognized by both NSSE and the Teagle Foundation as being effective at using assessment data to inform practice on campus.
