Juniors Rob Arnett and Stephen Mosier advanced to the finals of the Ohio Northern University Wrestling Invitational Saturday. Arnett took fourth place at 285 pounds, while Mosier finished seventh at 165.
Arnett, the fourth seed, opened the tournament with a pin 4:39 into his match against Brian Barnhart from Muskingum. Another pin, this time in the second match of the day against Tri-State's Kyle Brown at 4:15, sent Arnett to the quarterfinals. He defeated fifth-seeded Tony Carothers from Heidelberg 4-2 in two overtimes to advance to the semifinals against top-seeded Trey Moss from Limestone. Moss came away with a 3-2 victory to send Arnett to the consolation bracket, where he posted a 1-0 win over Dan Thoburn from Findlay.
That win set up a rematch of last weekend's championship bout of the Indiana Little State tournament between Arnett and the University of Indianapolis' Lynn Panko, seeded third coming into the ONU tournament. For the second week in a row, Panko defeated Arnett, giving the Wabash wrestler a fourth-place finish.
Mosier started his day with a 9-6 win against Colin Swick from Ohio Northern and 5-3 victory over fifth-seeded Justin Waycaster from Lycoming. The four seed, Aaron Jonhenry from Heidelberg, scored a 6-1 victory to put Mosier in the consolation bracket. Mosier picked up a 10-2 win in his first consolation match, but lost the second match before picking up a injury forfeit in the finals to finish seventh.
Wabash was 16th overall with a total of 36 points.
The Little Giants will return to the mats December 29, participating in two different tournaments in Evanston, Illinois. Part of the team will be at the Midlands Championship meet at Northwestern University, while the remainder of the squad will wrestle at the Midwest Open.
