Wabash Falls to Undefeated Wooster

The Wabash College soccer team was unable to hand the College of Wooster its first loss of the season, losing 2-0 to the Scots in a North Coast Athletic Conference match on Saturday.

Wabash got off to a strong start as sophomore Colin Smith (Zionsville, IN/Zionsville) smacked a shot off of the post in the first two minutes. The Little Giants had another chance to take an early lead when freshman Jeff Diebel (Ft. Wayne, IN/Homestead) saw his shot hit the crossbar at the top of the goal in the ninth minute.

Wooster regrouped after the early Wabash attack and scored the eventual gamewinner in the 15th minute on an unassisted goal. The Scots added a second goal in the second half to win their 10th match of the year.

The Little Giants stayed even with Wooster in shots, firing 18 attempts to Wooster's 20 in the match. Senior goalkeeper Graham Bailey (Evansville, IN/Evansville North) made five saves in 90 minutes.

Wabash falls to 5-5 with the loss, 0-2 against NCAC opponents. The Little Giants return to the pitch on Saturday, October 5 for a Homecoming match against Oberlin. The junior varsity team will start the day with an exhibition match at 10:30 a.m. at Mud Hollow Field against Wabash soccer alumni returning for the weekend.
