Little Giants Score Two Wins at Knox Wrestling Duals

The Wabash wrestling team posted wins over the Milwaukee School of Engineering and the host Knox College at the third annual Chuck Porter Duals in Galesburg, Illinois Saturday.

The Little Giants scored a two-point win over MSOE in the second round of action after losing 38-7 to North Central in the opening round. Wabash dominated the heavier weight classes in the 27-25 victory. Stephen Mosier scored a 16-4 major victory at 165 pounds. Robert Beeler won by technical fall 21-6 against Scott Ison in the 174-pound weight class. Two pins --- one by Michael Burke at 184 and another by Cody Johnson at 197 --- set up the final forfeit victory by Rob Arnett at heavyweight to pick up the win.

Keith Closson scored a pin in his opening bout at 125 pounds against Knox, sticking Ryan Olson to the mat at the 2:20 mark. Graham Youngs dominated his match at 149 pounds, winning by technical fall with a score of 22-6. Jared Tribbett's match was much closer, but the junior 157-pounder eventually came away with a 6-4 victory over Daniel Stafford.

Mosier picked up his second win of the day by pinning Luke Karner at 5:22 of their bout. Bryan Hugo took a forfeit at 174 pounds, followed by major decisions by Burke (14-2) and Johnson (10-2).

Wabash and Wheaton tied 21-21 in the final match of the day. Junior Stephen Iles returned to the Little Giants' lineup after spending the fall semester studying overseas to take a forfeit at 125 pounds. Youngs scored a 15-9 win at 149. Mosier finished the day 3-1 with a 6-4 win at 165 pounds, while Burke went 3-1 as well by defeating Justin Tomal 10-3. Johnson took a forfeit at 197 before Arnett won the final match of the day, a 7-2 victory over Chase Campbell to send the Little Giants home with a 2-1-1 record.

Wabash will host Rose-Hulman and Tri-State in the Indiana's Best Duals Sunday at 10 a.m. at Chadwick Court.
