Wabash came within four points of winning another North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Relays title at Denison University Saturday afternoon. The Little Giants took second place in the team scoring, trailing only Ohio Wesleyan.
The Battling Bishops won the meet with a total of 88.50 points. Wabash was second with 85. Denison was a distant third, scoring 49 points. Wooster and Allegheny each had 46 points to finish tied for fourth. Oberlin (43), Kenyon (31), Wittenberg (29), and Earlham (25.50) rounded out the team scoring.
Sophomore Emmanuel Aouad was big reason behind the Little Giants' success. He won the individual portions of the 55-meter hurdles relay (7.83) and the long jump relay (6.43 meters) and was second in the triple jump relay (12.78 meters). He joined Wes Chamblee, Richard Roomes, and Bart Banach to take second in the 800-meter relay (1:33.92) and was part of the second place 1600-meter relay team of Roomes, Banach, and Lambert (3:34.30).
Chamblee, Roomes, Banach, and Lambert combined to win the sprint medley relay with a time of 3:36.60. The distance medley team of Justin Allen, Tim Rickard, Lambert, and Hugh Jackson took second place after crossing the finish line in 10:33.64.
In the field events, Robert Trahin and Nelson Barre cleared a total height of 7.90 meters to tie for first in the pole vault relay. Trahin tied for the top individual mark by clearing 4.10 meters. Chamblee and Wade Heiny tied for second in the high jump relay after both athletes cleared 1.75 meters for a combined height of 3.50.
Aouad and Chamblee were second overall in the long jump relay with a total distance of 11.83 meters. That same duo took second in the triple jump relay with a total mark of 24.85 meters. Aoaud and Barre added their times in the 55-meter hurdles relay to earn a second place finish with a time of 16.57.
Darryl Kennon and David Haggard were third in the shot put relay with a total mark of 24.78 meters.
The Little Giants will compete in the Wabash Open Invitational Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in the Knowling Fieldhouse.
