Arnett, Tribbett Take Seconds at Midstates

Rob Arnett finished second in the 285-pound weight class at Saturday's Midstates Wrestling Conference Championship meet held at Rose-Hulman. The juniors helped Wabash finish fourth in the final team standings.

Arnett, the top seeded wrestler entering the tournament, took a 3-0 victory in his first bout against Millikin's Allan Lick. Pat Thatcher from Mount St. Joseph lost 22-6 to Arnett in the second round. The Wabash grappler scored a 3-1 victory over fifth-seeded Rey Berumen from Rose-Hulman in the semifinals, advancing to face number-two seed Sean Misko from Olivet in the finals. Misko got the upper hand, pinning Arnett two minutes into their bout for the victory.

Tribbett started the day with a forfeit victory against Jonathan Pearson from Manchester, then shut out second-seeded Vince Tucker-Lahar from Olivet 4-0. The third-seeded Tribbett faced number seed Elliott Spence in the finals, falling 10-2.

Graham Youngs was third in the 149-pound weight class with a 3-1 record. He started with a 12-7 victory against Matt Murray from Tri-State before losing to Spence in the second round. Youngs rallied for two straight victories in the consolation bracket, pinning Anthony Finigan from Rose-Hulman at 6:14 in the semifinals before scoring a 6-3 win in thef inals over Matt Joyce from Manchester.

Robert Beeler took third at 174 pounds. He earned a bye before defeating teammate James Fitzpatrick 16-1 in the second round. A 13-7 loss to Nick Kraus from Tri-State sent Beeler to the consolation bracket, where he scored a 19-3 win over Millikin's Trevor Griffin. Beeler won 12-2 in the finals over fourth-seede Heath Lukacs from Mount St. Joseph to earn third place.

Cody Johnson and Michael Burke each added fourth-place finishes in their respective weight classes. Johnson went 2-2 at 197 pounds, while Burke was 1-2 at 184 pounds.

Wabash scored 85.5 points in the final team standings, trailing conference champion Olivet (162.5), Mount St. Joseph (141), and Tri-State (115.5).

Wabash will serve as host for the 2008 NCAA Midwest Wrestling Regional Saturday, February 23 at Chadwick Court.
