Two Goals from Aguirre Not Enough As Wabash Soccer Falls to Wittenberg

Wabash senior forward Carlos Aguirre (Indianapolis, IN/Ben Davis) scored two goals in the first half of Wednesday's match at Wittenberg, but it was not enough to overcome three goals by the Tigers in the opening minutes of play. Wittenberg went on to a 4-2 victory over the Little Giants.

Aguirre's first goal came after the Tigers had scored three times in the first five minutes of the match. The first Wabash goal came on a set piece as freshman Chade Lamm (Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg) lifted a corner kick into the box to junior Cody Lawson (Carmel, IN/Carmel). Lawson got the ball to Aguirre, who scored his 19th goal of the season, cutting into the Wittenberg lead.

Aguirre scored on another corner kick situation 15 minutes later in the first half. Sophomore Tom Reifenberg (Ft. Wayne, IN/Bishop Luers) took the corner, finding Lawson again. For the second time in the match the ball went to Aguirre, drawing the Little Giants to within a goal of Wittenberg.

That would be as close as Wabash would get. A penalty kick in the second half by the Tigers made it a two-goal match.

Wabash finished the match with 13 shots and eight shots on goal. Freshman goalie Will McAdams (Carmel, IN/Carmel) made eight saves in the match.

The loss in conference play moves the Little Giants to 6-8 for the season, 1-5 in the NCAC. Wabash travel to Gambier, Ohio on Saturday for a 1 p.m. match against North Coast Athletic Conference foe Kenyon College.
