Saturday Win Not Enough in Home Tourney Bid

Aaron Brock scored 21 points and Andrew Zimmer dished in 20 to give Wabash an 86-75 win at Denison in the 2007-08 Wabash basketball regular season finale. The victory was not enough to boost Wabash to the fourth seed in the upcoming North Coast Athletic Conference tournament. The Little Giants will travel to Kenyon Tuesday evening thanks in part to the Lords' 64-51 win over Wittenberg.

Wabash took a six-point lead at halftime against the Big Red after jumping out to an 11-point lead in the first eight minutes of the game. Back-to-back three-pointers by Brock and Chase Haltom put the Little Giants up 29-16 before an 8-0 Denison run made the game close once again.

The Big Red trimmed the lead to one point early in the final period before the Little Giants pulled away 16-point lead with 3:38 left in the contest before settling for the 11-point victory.

Wes Smith added 18 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals to the Little Giants' totals. He has recorded 60 steals this season, putting him three away from tying the Wabash single season record of 63 set by Mike Lustina '95 in the 1993-94 season.

Chris Eberst led Denison with 17 points. The Big Red missed a chance to make the NCAC tournament as an eight seeded when Oberlin defeated Hiram earlier in the day.

Wabash finishes the regular season with a mark of 16-9 and a 10-6 record in NCAC action. The Little Giants travel to Kenyon for a 6 p.m. contest Tuesday evening in the quarterfinals of the NCAC Tournament.
