The Little Giants took a 7-2 victory at Wartburg Saturday afternoon after losing 8-1 to regionally-ranked Luther Friday evening in Iowa. Both matches were played at the Fieldhouse at the W on the Wartburg campus.
Wabash won two of the three doubles matches against Wartburg. Jay Horrey and Sean Clerget combined for the first time this season to take an 8-3 victory at second doubles. Ricky Ritter and Ryan Waldon were also 8-3 victors at third doubles.
Horrey scored a 6-4, 6-1 win at number two singles, followed by a 7-6-64 victory by Ryan Tennyson in the third flight. Ritter defeated Patrick Mullen 5-7, 6-1, 10-8 in fourth singles. Waldon and Clerget earned straight-set victories. Waldon won 7-6, 6-0 at fifth singles, while Clerget was a 6-3, 6-0 winner in the sixth flight.
Luke Bielawski picked up the only win for the Little Giants against Luther, ranked 12th in the Central Region, with a three-set win over Jono Martin at second singles. The Wabash freshman won 3-6-6-4, 10-8 to pick up his ninth victory in a row in singles play. Bielawski moved to first singles against Wartburg, falling 6-3, 6-3 to Tylor Schlader.
Wabash (6-8) returns to North Coast Athletic Conference action Friday afternoon with a home match against Denison University at the Collett Tennis Center.
