Little Giants Second at DePauw Golf Spring Invite

Wabash sophomore Sam Russell tied for medalist honors at Sunday's DePauw Spring Invitational Classic. The Little Giant team had four players in the top-16 places to finish one stroke out of first place in the team competition.

Russell (right) finished with a 77 to tie Matthew Payne from Franklin and Zac Johnson from Indiana Tech for the lowest score at the one-day, 18-hole event. The match was put together by DePauw shortly after the scheduled tournament by Hanover College was forced to be cancelled due to course conditions in southern Indiana.

Freshman Luke Moton tied for fifth with a 79. Jordan Vice overcame a week-long bout of strep throat to tie for 11th with an 81. Freshman Jake German tied for 16th in his first varsity golf match, shooting an 82. Bryan Arnold added an 84 in the 2008 spring season opener.

Wabash shot 321 as a team, one stroke off the 320 posted by DePauw. Indiana Tech was third (326).

The Little Giants will compete in the Anderson Invitational March 29-30.
