Little Giants Picked Third in NCAC Basketball Poll

The Wabash College basketball team was picked to finish third in the conference in both the coaches and media poll at the annual North Coast Athletic Conference Basketball Media Day on Tuesday.

Wabash received one first place vote in the coaches poll to finish in third place with 85 points. Five media members voted for the Little Giants as the top team in the conference. Wabash finished third in the overall media voting with 274 points. Wittenberg was picked to finish first in both polls. The Tigers received eight first place votes from the coaches and topped the poll with 97 points. Wittenberg finished with 299 points in the media poll and 19 first place votes. Wooster was second in both polls (88 points - coaches poll; 279 points - media poll).

Wabash opens the season on Friday, November 22 as the host of the Little Giant Tipoff Classic. DePauw University will open the Classic against Illinois Wesleyan at 6 p.m. while the Little Giants will face Purdue University-Calumet at 8 p.m. The consolation and championship games will take place on Saturday.

Wabash has four starters back from last year's team that finished 15-11. Joe DesJean (Indianapolis, IN/Perry Meridian) will be back for his season after averaging 18 points and 9.8 rebounds per game last season for the Little Giants. DesJean was the NCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Year after leading the conference in rebounding and blocked shots last season. Also returning is senior guard Brady Claxton (Shelbyville, IN/Shelbyville), who averaged 16.5 points last season for Wabash. Senior center Ryan Short (Indianapolis, IN/Perry Meridian) will join the team at the conclusion of the football season. He averaged 11.3 points a game last year.
