Wabash College’s Theater Department and Experience Indiana will host Anne Fliotsos who will give a talk on "Broadway Bound: Women Directors Take the Stage" at 4:15 a.m. Thursday, April 3, in Korb Classroom in the Fine Arts Center.
Fliotsos is an Associate Professor of Theatre, Theory & Criticism at Purdue University. She has two awards (for direction and play script) from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival for her work on Oedipus! A New Musical Comedy, which was published and produced in New York. She has published research in Theatre Topics, Studies in Popular Culture, The Journal of American Culture, American Theatre, and Research in Drama Education. In 2006 Fliotsos won the George Whately Award for best journal article in Studies in Popular Culture for her essay, "Cultural Specificity and the American Musical: Rodgers and Hammerstein Revivals."
Her books include Teaching Theatre Today (Palgrave Macmillan, 2004) and Women Stage Directors of the 20th Century (U of IL, July 2008). She has also contributed essays on Broadway theatre to several forthcoming encyclopedias published by Greenwood Press. Fliotsos is currently heading the directing program for the Association for Theatre in Higher Education.
