Diamondmen Lose 3-1 at Anderson

A tight pitching dual went the way of the Ravens Wednesday afternoon in a 3-1 loss by Wabash at Anderson University.

The Little Giants managed just four hits against Anderson's ace, Kevin Pence. The junior lefthander earned his second complete game win of the season and third overall. Wabash used four pitchers in a tune-up for this weekend's four-game North Coast Athletic Conference series against Denison University at Mud Hollow Field. Patrick McCarley took the loss, working three inning while surrending two runs on four hits. Joey Niezer, Brian Van Duyn, and Keegan Leckrone each threw two innings of relief. The four pitchers combined for eight strikeouts.

Anderson scored two runs in the first before Wabash answered with one in the fourth. Matt Dodaro led off the inning with his 31st career double, moving him to sixth on the Little Giants' all-time list. The junior shortstop scored one batter later when freshman Tanner Coggins lifted a single down the right field line to cut the Ravens' lead to one run. Anderson added an insurance run in the seventh on a double to left.

Coggins had two of the Little Giants' four hits. Dodaro and PJ Tyson accounted for the final two hits.

Wabash (13-10) begins its series against Denison Saturday at noon.
