Wabash scored 71.5 points Saturday to take fourth place out of 12 teams at the DePauw Outdoor Invitational. Freshman Rob Smallman accounted for 10 points with his first place finish in the pole vault.
Smallman tied with Illinois Wesleyan's Kyle Boley after both cleared 4.40 meters, or 14 feet, 5-1/4 inches. Smallman cleared the height earlier than Boley, however, to earn the top spot in the final standings.
Hugh Jackson added a third place finish in the 1500-meter run, crossing the finish line in 4:02.11. Jackson added another third place finish in the 800-meter run, finishing with a time of 1:58.83. Emmanuel Aouad also took third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.37.
Richard Roomes was fourth in the 400 meter dash (50.49), while Wes Chamblee took fourth in the 400 hurdles (56.55). Seth Einterz added a fifth place finish in the 5,000 with a time of 15:42.40.
Wabash was also strong in the field events. Andrew Rode tied for fourth in the high jump, clearing 1.80 meters (5 feet, 10-3/4 inches). Justin Sparks and Alex Moseman finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the hammer throw. Sparks' final mark was 42.92 meters, while Moseman was right behind with a mark of 42.86 meters.
Indiana Wesleyan won the meet with 165 points. Taylor was second (122.5) with Illinois Wesleyan taking third (75.5). St. Joseph's was fifth (71), with Valparaiso (49), Bellarmine (48.5), DePauw (47), Centre (37.5), Millikin (34), Mount St. Joseph (18), and Butler (1.5) rounding out the team scoring.
Wabash will compete at the annual Indiana Intercollegiate Championships this Friday and Saturday in Indianapolis.
