Wrestlers Celebrate Season With Annual Awards Banquet

The 2007-2008 wrestling season came to a close Sunday for the Little Giants with their annual wrestling banquet. Six members of the team were recognized with special awards.

Sophomore Cody Johnson (right) received the Little Giants' Desire Award, presented to the Wabash wrestler who displayed the most heart and determination throughout the entire season as voted upon by the team. 

Johnson and junior Jared Tribbett (below left) shared the Max Servies '58 Leadership Award. Named for the legendary former Wabash wrestling coach and athletics director, the Servies Award is given to the wresters who demonstrated positive leadership qualities through their actions on and off the mat.

Other awards presented included the Most Takedowns for the season to Robert Beeler, who led the team with 63 total and +19 overall. Beeler also earned the Most Valuable Freshman Award. Johnson and Stephen Mosier tied for the Most Falls for the year with seven. Mosier received the Most Improved Wrestler Award, as well. Rob Arnett was named the Most Valuable Wrestler after posting a 34-13 record for the year with six pins, one technical fall, and three major decisions.

Keith Closson, James Fitzpatrick, Quincy Dotson, Graham Youngs, and Beeler received their first-year letter awards. Seth Flater, Dan Brown, Bryan Hugo, Michael Burke, and Johnson earned second-year lettermen jackets. Stephen Iles, Mosier, Tribbett, and Arnett picked up third-year letter awards.
