Freshman pole vaulter Rob Smallman cleared 4.71 meters (15 feet, 5-1/2 inches) Friday night at the Rose-Hulman Twilight Meet to eclipse the NCAA provisional qualifying height of 4.70 while winning the event. Smallman posted one of 17 top-five performances by Wabash athletes at the unscored meet.
Rob Trahin finished second to his teammate in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.26 meters (13 feet, 11-3/4 inches). Alex Moseman added a second place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 47.96 meter (157feet, 4 inches). Justin Sparks was fourth in the hammer (44.27 meters, 145 feet, 3 inches). Emmanuel Aouad added a second place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.93. Wes Chamblee was fourth (56.82), while Tim Rickard took sixth (57.84). Aouad added a third place finish in the long jump (6.56 meters; 21 feet, 6-1/4 inches) and a fourth in the 110 hurdles (15.16). (View photos of the meet taken by Clayton Craig '08 here.)
The Little Giants took three of the top-five places in the 5000-meter run. Ben Bly finished third with a time of 15:40.46. Micah Millman crossed the finish line in fourth place at 15:46.13, while Hugh Jackson was right behind in fifth place at 15:47.55. The Little Giants also dominated the 400-meter dash. Richard Roomes took fourth place with a time of 50.38. Bart Banach finished fifth (50.44) with Geoff Lambert just a tick of the watch back in sixth (50.72).
Darryl Kennon grabbed third in the discus with a final mark of 40.83 meters (133 feet, 11 inches). Brent Banach was fourth in the javelin with a mark of 43.42 meters (142 feet, 5 inches). Joshua Gangloff finished fourth in the shot put (13.35 meters; 43 feet, 9-3/4 inches).
The Little Giants added a third place finish in the 1600-meter relay. The quartet of Chamblee, Roomes, Quincy Dotson, and Bart Banach combined for a time of 3:21.17.
