Senior Geoff Lambert completed the career sweep in the 800-meter run, grabbing his fourth consecutive conference title at the 2008 North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Trackand Field Championships. The win earned him Middle Distance/Distance Runner of the Year honors and helped Wabash finish third in the final team standings.
Lambert (right) cruised to the win by over two seconds, crossing the finish line in 1:54.16. He was one second away from earning a provisional berth to this year's NCAA Division III National Championship meet and another chance to earn All-America honors.
Several other Wabash athletes received All-NCAC awards after finishing in the top-three places in their respective events. The hurdles duo of sophomore Emmanuel Aouad and freshman Wes Chamblee grabbed first and third in the 400-meter hurdles. Chamblee (left) won the event with a time of 54.34, earning a provisional spot at Nationals. Aouad was just a tick behind in third with a time of 55.17. Aouad came back to win his own title in the 110-meter high hurdles, taking the top spot by finishing in 15.49. Aouad added to the Wabash team total with a fifth place finish in the triple jump, leaping 13.33 meters (43 feet, 9 inches). Chamblee also scored one more All-NCAC award with a second place finish in the high jump with a mark 1.87 meters or 6 feet, 1-1/2 inches.
Freshman Alex Moseman and senior Justin Sparks finished 1-2 in the hammer throw. Moseman (right) won the event with a mark of 47.64 meters (156 feet, 3 inches). Sparks was second with a distance of 47.19 meters (154 feet, 10 inches).
Brent Banach grabbed second place in the javelin with a throw of 51.62 meters, or 169 feet, 4 inches. Hugh Jackson turned in an All-NCAC effort in the 1500-meter run, finishing third with a time of 4:00.20. The Little Giants also posted two All-NCAC performances in both relays, finishing third in the 400-meter relay with a time of 44.46 and second in the 1600-meter relay at 3:23.69.
Seth Einterz and Sam Compton-Craig both scored in the steeplechase. Einterz took sixth with a time of 9:54.45, while Compton-Craig was eighth with a finishing time of 10:08.17. Einterz also grabbed fourth place in the 5000-meter run (15:44.47).
Senior Richard Roomes was fourth in the 200-meter dash (22.93) and seventh in the 400-meter dash (50.53).
The Little Giants just missed a second place effort as a team, finishing with 148-1/2 points behind Allegheny's 150-point effort. The host school, Ohio Wesleyan University, won the competition with 236 points. Oberlin (74), Wooster (59), Wittenberg (56-1/2), Denison (50), Earlham (40), Kenyon (4), and Hiram (0) rounded out the final scoring.
