Thomas Earns Academic All-District Honor

Junior outfielder Jake Thomas has been named to the ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-District V Second Team for 2008.

An English major with a 3.65 cumulative GPA, Thomas set the Wabash single season record for hits last year with 59. His .378 career batting average is currently at the top of the Wabash record book. Thomas finished the 2008 season hitting .333, tying for second on the team for highest batting average. His 46 hits this year were the most among Wabash players. He tied for second in doubles (6) and triples (1), and was third in home runs (2). He added 19 RBIs and six stolen bases.

Defensively, Thomas posted a .970 fielding percentage, including three assists as the starting rightfielder for Wabash. He helped the Little Giants to their first 20-win season since 2003.

The Evanston, Illinois product will head into his final season at Wabash next year ranked in the top-20 in nine different categories on the all-time records list.

Thomas was selected for Second Team honors by votes collected from members of the College sports Information Directors of America throughout the fifth district, which includes the states of Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin in addition to the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Manitoba.
