Healy became the first Wabash wrestler since Ryan Mills '00 to earn an individual championship at the meet. Mills was the heavyweight champion at the 1998 competition. Healy also became the 75th Wabash wrestler to win an individual title since the tournament began in 1959.
Healy, seeded second at the start of the tournament, pinned Bethel's Ben Ennis at the 3:09 mark to earn his first win of the meet. He followed that victory with a 13-4 decision over Lamar Fenner of Lincoln College.
Healy advanced to the championship match on Saturday after defeating Manchester's Johnny Davis, the number three seed, 9-2. That put him up against the top-seeded wrestler Aaron Johnson from the University of Indianapolis. Johnson was a NCAA Division II National Championship qualifier two seasons ago, and had defeated Healy in their previous meeting. But the Wabash sophomore earned a 7-6 decision in the final bout to earn the 174-pound crown.
Wabash sophomore Adam Miller (Pendleton, IN/Pendleton Heights) took third place at 157 pounds. Miller defeated Zane Goldsberry from the University of Indianapolis 5-2 to open the competition. He then pinned his second opponent, Doug Stehlin from Wilmington, just 1:48 into the match. A tough 3-2 decision won by Errol Robinson of Muskingum College sent Miller to the the consolation bracket where he won his final two matches, including a pin in the last match to take third place.
Two other Wabash wrestlers earned top-five finishes. Sophomore Mark Dietzen (Elmhurst, IL/York Community) was fifth at 165 pounds after going 4-2 in the two-day tournament. Dietzen opened the competition with a pin, then won two out of three matches after dropping to the consolation bracket. Senior Logan Kuhne (Ft. Wayne, IN/Northrop) was fifth at 197 pounds. Kuhne opened with a 15-4 win in his first match, then earned a 5-4 win in his second. After falling to the consolation bracket, Kuhne won his final match of the tournament to earn the fifth-place finish.
