The Malcolm X Institute of Black Studies will host an Alumni Weekend Friday and Saturday to honor Wabash College’s first African-American graduate.
More than 250 Wabash and MXI alumni will be invited to the two–day event. The highlight will be the Saturday night dinner. Members and alums will celebrate the 100th graduation Anniversary of John Evans ‘08. Evans was the first black man to graduate from Wabash.
The weekend program begins with a Friday evening reception. Saturday activities include meetings with students, an MXI business meeting, presentations from President Patrick White and Dean of the College Gary Phillips, and other campus updates.
Director Tim Lake will give the State of the MXIBS over lunch. The alumni can choose from a variety of Saturday afternoon activities including the Wabash vs. University of Chicago football game at 1 p.m.
The event is sponsored by the Malcolm X Institute of Black Studies, Admissions, Alumni Affairs, Multicultural Concerns Committee, and the Office of the President.
