Wabash Earns First Dual Meet Victory at Purdue Duals

The Wabash College wrestling team faced some tough competition at the Purdue Duals on Sunday, including the 13th-ranked Purdue Boilermakers. The Little Giants finished 1-2 for the day, defeating SIU-Edwardsville 24-15 to earn their first dual meet victory of the season. Wabash lost 48-3 to Northern Illinois in the first dual of the day, then lost 49-0 to Purdue.

Sophomore Chris Healy (Jasper, IN/Jasper) continued his season success in the 174-pound weight class, finishing the weekend 2-1. Healy won the only match for Wabash in the opening session against Northern Illinois with a 13-11 decision over Andrew Hamlett.

Wabash was swept by the highly-ranked host Boilermakers, but freshman Joe Seger (Jasper, IN/Jasper) nearly grabbed an upset victory for Wabash. Seger lost at 184 pounds to Purdue's Barry Jackson by a final score of 5-3.

The Little Giants bounced back in their final dual meet of the day, opening the match with a 9-4 victory by sophomore Phu Hong (Lawrence Central). Drew McCoy (New Palastine, IN/New Palastine) claimed an 11-5 victory at 149 pounds, followed by a 3-2 sudden death overtime victory by Adam Miller (Pendleton, IN/Pendleton Heights) at 157 pounds.

Healy won his second match of the day with a 10-3 decision over SUI-Edwardsville's Zach Stephens.
