Freshmen Goals Keep Wabash Perfect at Home

 

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. --- Freshman Femi Oluyedun scored the game-winning goal and had an assist on the first for Wabash in the Little Giants’ 2-1 home victory over previously undefeated Transylvania University.

Oluyedun  blasted his first career goal in the 29th minute of Saturday’s match to give the Little Giants a 2-0 lead. Freshman Austin Jennings took a pass from Oluyedun and Dylan Andrew 10 minutes into play to put Wabash up early.

The Little Giants faced a 4-0 Pioneer squad that battled for every ball with a total of 27 fouls and five cards called in the match. Wabash freshman Andrew Pearcy went to the bench with a red card when he picked up his second yellow of the match, forcing Wabash to play a man down for the final 36 minutes.

"We played tremendous soccer in the first 30 minutes of the match," head coach Roberto Giannini said. "We scored two outstanding goals and had a couple of additional scoring chances.

"We fought like lions in a 2-1 match after the red card put us a man down to fight for the win."  

Goalkeeper Pat West turned away five shots on goal. Transylvania outshot the Little Giants 13-10 overall.

"I’m very proud of the way we responded not only to the way we lost at Rose-Hulman Wednesday but also in how we handled some adversity in today’s match," Giannini said. "It was a tremendous team effort."

The victory kept Wabash undefeated at home, winning all three matches played The Little Giants (3-2-1) travel to DePauw University Tuesday night for a 7 p.m. match.
