Golf Team Ties For Ninth in Fall Opener

The Wabash golf team started the 2008-09 season by tying for ninth place at the Denison Fall Classic.

The Little Giants lost two spots from their opening day spot at seventh after finishing with a 305 as a team. Wabash shot a 315 Sunday at the Granville Golf Course for a two-day total of 620 strokes.

Senior Jordan Vice (right) trimmed two strokes off his first-day total of 76 to fire a 74 on Sunday, tying for 14th place overall with a 150. Drew Palmer tied for 29th (74-79--153), while Charlie Kelly tied for 51st (77-80--157). Sam Russell (78-83--161) and Bryan Arnold (80-82--162) completed the team's effort in its first outing of the year.

Ohio Wesleyan won the match with a two-day total of 579. John Carroll was second (591), followed by Allegheny (597), Wittenberg (599), DePauw (601), Denison (602), Mount Union (603), and Muskingum (617). Baldwin-Wallace tied with Wabash with a score of 620. Ohio Northern (631), Wooster (638), Kenyon (642), and Hiram (694) completed the team scoring.

The event is part of the four-match North Coast Athletic Conference Golf Championship Series, which includes two fall events, a spring event, and the NCAC Invitational at the end of the year. The Oberlin Invitational set for September 27-28 will complete the fall portion of the Series. Wabash will serve as host for the first spring event at the Trophy Club April 18-19. The NCAC Invitational will take place May 2-3 in Meadville, Pennsylvania.
