The Wabash soccer team was hoping for a quick start to the 2008 North Coast Athletic Conference season Saturday with a road match at Wooster. An early second half goal by the Scots proved to be the difference in a 1-0 defeat.
Scott Buckwald nailed the game-winning shot off a low cross into the box by Karl Ruter nine minutes into the second half of the match. Wabash goalkeeper Pat West made four additional saves in the match, while his counterpart ---Taylor Takacs --- recorded seven saves.
The Little Giants move to 3-3-2 with the loss, 0-1 in the NCAC. All three of Wabash's wins have come at home, while the team is 0-3-2 away from Mud Hollow Field.
"We gave away a soft goal on defense," head coach Roberto Giannini said. "We didn't capitalize on chances on our offensive end. For some reason we just don't seem as aggressive and determined on the road as we are at home."
Wabash heads back out on the road Wednesday with a 5 p.m. match at Anderson.
