The Wabash golf team dominated stroke and match play on the way to a 14-2 win over Rose-Hulman Wednesday night in the fall edition of the 2008 Giant-Engineer Match Play Classic. The Little Giants took the stroke play portion of the meet at the Crawfordsville Country Club 442 to 476.
The scoring for match is similar to Ryder Cup play. Players match up against an opponent within their group, in addition to playing best ball with their group teammate against the two opponents. A match play point is also awarded to the winning team in stroke play. The top six players' scores are combined for the team stroke play total.
Senior Jordan Vice was the top player for Wabash individually, finishing second overall with a 71. He defeated Rose-Hulman's Mark Koroluk 4 & 3 in the match play portion. Freshman Ben Foster joined with Vice to win the best ball match point with a score of 4 & 3.
Sam Russell earned a point with a 3 & 2 match play win over Coy McNew. Drew Palmer won 7 & 6 against Bret Highley. Russell and Palmer combined for a 5 & 4 win in best ball.
Luke Moton and Luke Bielawski won their best ball match 1 up. Moton took a 4 & 3 win over Bret Holbrook in match play.
Jordan Koch was an 8 & 7 winner over Jon Dann. Jake German defeated Spenser Warren 5 & 4. German and Koch won best ball play 6 & 5.
Charlie Kelly won 8 & 7 over Cliff Parsons. Bryan Arnold scored a 3 & 2 win against Tyler Werke. Kelly and Arnold took a 7 & 6 best ball victory.
Wabash will play in the Oberlin Invitational Saturday and Sunday. The 36-hole tournament is part of the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship Series.
