Soccer's Early Lead Evaporates at Denison

Austin Jennings put Wabash in front with an unassisted goal in the first five minutes of the Little Giants' soccer match at Denison Saturday afternoon. The Big Red responded with the game-tying goal a minute later before adding the game-winner in the last six minutes of the match for a 2-1 win.

Jennings (right) notched his team-best fifth goal of the season 4:28 into the game with a drive down the left side of the field.

"We played good soccer today," head coach Roberto Giannini said. "We had good chances to score, we played hard, we out-hustled Denison, and I feel we out-played them. I've never been prouder of my guys."

Peter Shorten caused all the damage for Denison. He got a quick touch off a pass from Drew Lash to get past goalkeeper Devin Moss for the equalizing goal at 5:51. Shorten added the final goal with both teams down a player in the final ten minutes of the match. The Little Giants played down a man for the final 30 minutes of the contest.

Moss recorded six saves in his first action of the season. Josh Pedersen, Allan Swan, and Andrew Pearcy each had shots on goal for Wabash in addition to Jennings' blast in the opening minutes.

Wabash (4-4-2, 0-2 NCAC) returns to action Saturday with an 12 p.m. Homecoming match against Kenyon College at Mud Hollow Field.
