A memorial service for Wabash College freshman Johnny D. Smith will be held Thursday morning at 11:15 a.m. in the Pioneer Chapel. Smith, of Tucson, Arizona, died Sunday morning.

"Johnny was a tremendous young man," said Wabash President Patrick E. White. "He was part of a brotherhood of Wabash men, and we grieve for him, his family, and his brothers at this difficult time.
"Our deepest condolences go out to his family and his friends."
The cause of Smith’s death is unknown. Investigations by the Crawfordsville Police Department, the Wabash Dean of Students Office, and Delta Tau Delta International are ongoing.
Wabash has been providing counseling to members of the fraternity through its counseling service, directed by Scott Cavins, and through members of the Alumni Housing Corporation.
Smith, 18, the son of Stacy Smith and Robert Smith, came to Wabash from Desert View High School, where he was a member of the football and lacrosse teams, and was involved in jazz band and marching band.
Funeral services in Tucson are pending.
