Tankers Split Friday Night National Dual

Wabash was part of the Swimmingworldmagazine.com Meet of the Week Friday night in Springfield, Ohio. The Little Giants defeated Transylvania 142-62 but lost to the host Wittenberg Tigers 125-110 in the double-dual competition.

The Little Giants opened the meet with a strong team effort in the 400-yard medley relay. Eric Vaughn, Evan Rhinesmith, Adam Current, and Jordon Blackwell won the event with a time of 3:40:00, over a second faster than the second-place team from Transylvania.

Blackwell added an individual victory in the 100 freestyle, touching in 48.74 just ahead of teammate Craig Vetor in second (49.03). Chris Kermin was fourth for Wabash with a time of 51.76. Blackwell made it a nearly-perfect evening by helping Wabash to a final victory in the 400 free relay. The senior joined Blaine Cooper-Surma, Robert Fozkos, and Vetor to finish in 3:18.28, over two seconds faster than Wittenberg's second place squad.

Paul Buescher's time of 2:20.85 won the 200 breaststroke. Rhinesmith grabbed second place with a time of 2:21.14. 

Elijah Sanders and Logan Falley earned second- and third-place finishes, respectively, in the 1000 free. Sanders finished in 10:25.83, while Falley completed the race in 10:40.90. Sanders was also third in the 500 free (5:03.55). Vetor added a second in the 200 free (1:48.16), with Chad Woods taking fourth (1:51.31). Fozkos scored second-place points for the team in the 50 free with a time of 22.76, out-touched by Wittenberg's Taylor Smith by just 4/100th of a second at the end.

Vaughn took second in the 200 individual medley (2:03.82) and third in the 200 backstroke (2:04.02). Current was second in the 200 butterfly (2:04.68) with teammate David Birrer finishing third (2:05.29). 

Wabash will swim against rival DePauw University Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in the Class of 1950 Natatorium.
