Tankers Take Second at Woehnker Invite

Wabash finished second out of five teams in the annual Patrick Woehnker Swimming and Diving Invitational, held Friday and Saturday at the Class of 1950 Natatorium.

The Little Giants got off to a fast start, winning Friday night’s 800-yard relay. The quartet of Jordon Blackwell, Logan Falley, Craig Vetor, and Blaine Cooper-Surma out-touched the rest of the competition with a winning time of 7:18.16.

Vetor added an individual win in the 200-yard free style, finishing in 1:45.96. He also finished second in the 100 free (48.43) and 200 individual medley (2:03.75). Teammate Chad Woods was third in the 200 free (1:49.42) and 1650 free (17:22.14), and was second in the 500 free (4:58.10).

Freshman Paul Buescher scored a first-place finish in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:17.70. Eric Vaughn finished second in the 100 butterfly (53.99) and the 100 backstroke (55.46). Blackwell added a third in the 50 free (22.38), as did Evan Rhinesmith in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.25).

Wabash closed out the two-day meet by finishing second in the 200 freestyle relay. Blackwell, Cooper-Surma, Robert Fozkos, and Vetor touched the wall in 1:28.02.

The Little Giants will compete at the TYR Classic at Carthage College December 5-6.
