Sophomore Wes Smith has been named the North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the period ending November 30, 2008.
The Lawrence North High School graduate received the award after scoring 41 points in the Little Giants' 89-63 win over Hanover last Tuesday. The 41-point effort tied for the eighth-best single game total by a Wabash basketball player and was the highest points total for a Little Giant player since Josh Estelle '00 scored 40 points against Hanover and Wooster during the 1999-2000 season.
Smith tallied 24 of his 41 in the second period to boost the Little Giants to the victory. He also grabbed eight rebounds and had two assists, two steals, and two blocked shots. He leads the Wabash team with a 22.3 points-per-game average.
Smith and the rest of his Little Giant teammates travel to Greencastle, Indiana this evening to play arch-rival DePauw University at 7:30 p.m. Wabash defeated the Tigers 57-52 earlier this year in the consolation game of the Little Giant Tipoff Tournament.
