Emmanuel Aouad, Kevin McCarthy, and Wes Chamblee each posted top individual finishes in the Wabash track and field team's season-opening indoor meet at Rose-Hulman Friday night. The Little Giants posted 11 top-five finishes overall.
Aouad won the men's 55-meter hurdles Division III race, finishing with a time of 7.75 to make the NCAA Division III Championship provisional qualifying time in his first attempt this year. Teammate Wade Heiny took fourth place in the finals, posting a time of 8.14 after trimming 1/10th of a second off his qualifying mark.
McCarthy was the winner in the mile run, crossing the finish line in 4:32.44 a full three seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Justin Allen grabbed third place with a time of 4:37.76.
Chamblee added the third first-place finish for the Little Giants by winning the 200-meter dash with a time of 23:37.
Several other Wabash athletes recorded top-five finishes in their events. Alex Mosemen took second in the weight throw. His top mark was 14.23 meters (46 feet, 8-1/4 inches). Kyle Edwards was second in the shot put with a mark of 12.83 meters (42 feet, 1-1/4 inches), while teammate Matt Scheller was third (12.51 meters; 41 feet, 0-1/2 inches).
Garret Bonk finished fourth in the 800-meter run (2:02.62). Spencer Sheridan was right behind in fifth place (2:04.11). Andre Adeymi crossed the finish line fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.02.
Wabash returns to action next Saturday when the Little Giants play host to the annual Alumni Indoor Meet at the Knowling Fieldhouse.
