Wrestlers Enjoy Perfect Day at Monon Bell Duals

Wabash posted a 4-0 record at Saturday's Monon Bell Wrestling Duals, held at Chadwick Court. The Little Giants defeated Knox, Manchester, Rose-Hulman, and Wilmington. (View photos of the Little Giants' performances here.)

Wabash started with a 37-12 victory against Knox behind four pins. Andrew Kepchar started the scoring by recording a pin against Charlie Deutsch 1:22 into their 141-pound bout. Senior Jared Tribbett need just 45 seconds into his 149-pound match to put Dugan O'Connor on his back for a pin. Greg Rhoads scored a win by fall at the 6:01 mark of his 174-pound contest versus Aaron Burnett. Michael Burke finished the action with a pin 6:45 of the 197-pound bout against Alex Faulken. Stephen Mosier scored an 8-2 win at 165 pounds, while Justin Michaels and Justin Boyer received forfeits at 157 and 125 pounds.

Michaels scored the only victory on the mat for the Little Giants in a 42-12 win against Rose-Hulman. The Fighting Engineers gave Wabash six forfeits to combine with Michaels' pin of Anthony Finigan at 2:40 at 157 pounds.

The Little Giants scored a 31-18 win against Manchester College behind victories by Tribbett, Mosier, and Rhoads. Tribbett took a 6-0 victory against Torryn Heffelfinger. Mosier was a 13-3 victor against Chris Becker. Rhoads grabbed his second pin of the day, sticking Roderick Gallegos on his back 58 seconds into their 174-pound bout. Boyer, Burke, and Bryan Hugo scored forfeits to help Wabash to its third team victory of the day.

Wabash finished with a hard-fought 29-21 over Wilmington. After trailing 9-0, Kepchar brought the Little Giants back with a pin against David Evans (1:55). Tribbet gave Wabash the lead with a pin at 2:26 against Christian Moffatt.

A pin by Wilmington's Tim Dettwiller and a forfeit by the Little Giants at heavyweight were all the Quakers could muster over the final six matches. Mosier, Rhoads, Hugo, and Burke all picked up victories to give Wabash its fourth win.

Ten teams participated in the 28th annual event. Wabash returns to action next weekend at the Pete Willson/Wheaton Invitational.
