Wabash opened the newly-renovated John Collett Tennis Center Wednesday evening with a 9-0 victory over Franklin College.
The Collett Center was resurfaced over summer in addition to having new lighting, wall and ceiling panels installed, and new side netting added to the facility. (View photos from the match against Franklin here.)
The Little Giants started the day with three doubles victories. Senior Jay Horrey and freshman Peter Gunderman made short work of their opponents at number one doubles, winning 8-2. Sean Clerget and Evan Bayless combined for an 8-6 victory at number three doubles. Ryan Waldon and Ricky Ritter rallied from a 7-6 deficit to win the final three games of their number two doubles set to win 9-7, securing three team points for Wabash.
Horrey scored a 6-1, 6-1 win at number one singles to pick up his 57th career victory. He trails Mark Ratner '00 by six wins for the most career victories in Wabash tennis.
Waldon won 6-0, 6-1 at number two singles. Zach Lowry earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at number three singles. Gunderman was a 6-3, 6-1 winner in the fourth flight of singles play, while Ritter picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at fifth singles. Ian Sequeira cemented the shutout witha 6-1, 6-3 victory at number six singles.
The Little Giants (1-0) return to action with two matches Saturday at the Collett Center at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
