Little Giant Netters Sweep Weekend Competition

Wabash battled to a 5-4 victory Saturday morning against Augustana College before cruising to a 9-0 win against Adrian Saturday night at the Collett Tennis Center.

Jay Horrey and Peter Gunderman remained undefeated in doubles action with two wins. Horrey and Ricky Ritter both scored two wins in singles play to move to 3-0 for the spring season, as well.

The Little Giants trailed Augustana 2-1 at the conclusion of doubles play. Horrey and Gunderman scored the only win for Wabash with an 8-6 decision over Chris Mullin and Adam DeSimone. Horrey tied the match at 2-2 with a straight sets victory (6-4, 6-3) at number one singles. Senior Ryan Waldon grabbed another point for Wabash with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win in the second flight of singles play.

Gunderman and Ritter sealed the win for Wabash. Gunderman was a winner at fourth singles, rallying from a 2-6 first set to take a 6-4, 6-2 win in the final two sets. Ritter also had to play three sets, eventually defeating Geoff Schoon 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 at fifth singles to give the Little Giants the victory.

The Little Giants opened with three doubles wins against Adrian in the evening match. Horrey and Gunderman were barely tested in an 8-1 win at number one doubles. Waldon and Ritter scored an 8-2 win in the second flight, while Sean Clerget and Evan Bayless had little trouble in their 8-1 win in the third flight.

Wabash scored straight sets wins in singles action, starting with a 6-1, 6-0 victory by Horrey in the first flight. Zach Lowry picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at second singles. Ritter was a 6-2, 6-0 victor in the third flight. Ian Sequeira sailed to a 6-1, 6-2 win at fourth singles. Evans grabbed a 6-4, 6-2 win in the fifth flight of singles action. Clerget closed out the perfect score with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout in the sixth flight.

The Little Giants (3-0) travel to Kenyon Saturday for two matches. Wabash will play the nationally-ranked Lords in the morning before taking on the University of Chicago in the afternoon.
