Wabash sophomore guard Wes Smith has been named the North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season. Smith earned the honor after averaging 25.5 points in two Wabash wins last week.
The Lawrence North High School product scored 31 points at Earlham Wednesday night, helping the Little Giants snap a six-game losing streak with an 80-48 win in a game shortened to 36-1/2 minutes due to a power outage. He added eight rebounds, four steals, and one assist in 25 minutes of court time. Smith's 31-point effort tied his second-highest scoring output of the season. He scored 41 against Hanover in late November to earn NCAC Player of the Week honors for the first time this year. Smith scored 31 at Franklin on December 30.
Smith led Wabash with 20 points in a 63-61 win at Oberlin Saturday. He scored the final seven points of the game for the Little Giants in the final two minutes, including two free throws with five seconds left in the contest to give Wabash the win. He finished with seven rebounds, two assists, and four steals in addition to 20 points against the Yeomen.
